About Me

I like to think about stories – how we understand them, how we experience them, and how characters drive them. Mostly I do that through video games and history. Sometimes, I even get to write a bit myself.

This blog documents many of my thoughts on narrative over time, starting in graduate school in 2009. My PhD is in Classics from the University of Michigan, and since that time I have worked in a couple of industries, but my love for history, story, and games has never relented.

During the day, I lead a research center that studies AI as it’s used in society and business. There, I also work on how AI intersects with narrative, the narratives we tell about AI, and the characters some believe AI to be.
